Outlook for the transport revolution

Range-Extender and E-Methanol

-

Many vehicle manufacturers are focusing on purely battery-electric drives, but domestic green electricity generation is limited.
With e-fuels, on the other hand, abundant green energy can be
imported from the desert.

Almost finished: the final station in the production of the drive systems still requires a lot of manual work in the pilot facility.

HyConnect aims to digitally map gas station reservations and H2 prices

-

The PEM Chair at RWTH Aachen University is developing a digital platform for hydrogen logistics with partners. The goal is to efficiently manage gas station capacities and increase supply security for hydrogen trucks.

Politics

EU Automotive Package includes regulations for green steel

-

Automobile manufacturers are to reduce the emissions of their vehicle fleets by 90 percent by 2035. The remaining ten percent can be compensated with e-fuels and green steel from Europe. Hydrogen Europe hopes for a new lead market for climate-friendly steel.

Investor Palladio Partners Joins Hylane

-

The lessor of zero-emission trucks, Hylane, has gained a new investor with Palladio Partners. The investment company acquires the majority of voting rights for certain areas as part of a capital increase and plans to invest a three-digit million amount in fleet expansion.

Hydrogen engines

Same fuel, different tax

-

Several manufacturers are opting for hydrogen combustion engines instead of fuel cell drives. What is hardly known to the public: in Germany a different taxation applies to these. If the problem is not solved quickly at the political level, a technical workaround will be needed to ensure legally compliant refueling of H2 combustion engines.

From costs to emissions, the key figures for each fuel depend on its exact usage pathway. AEE INTEC is developing a tool to map these pathways.
Green marine fuels

Comparison of utilization pathways

-

Ammonia, methanol and hydrogen – all of them can serve as fuels for solid oxide fuel cells. However, comparing the key figures of fuel and technology pathways has so far proven difficult. The EU project Fuelsome aims to change this.

Currently sees little financial leeway for alternative drives in construction machinery: demolition waste recycler and environmental pioneer Walter Feess in Kirchheim/Teck.
Construction machinery

Hydrogen is expensive and hard to obtain

-

The introduction of hydrogen-powered construction machinery is faltering. This is due to progress in electrification even in the heavy-duty sector, the low availability of hydrogen, and high costs. Yet despite adverse circumstances, there is still interest.
