Fuel cells to cut carbon emissions from offshore oil and gas platforms

Delta, MODEC and Eld Energy plan to pilot a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system on a floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) by 2027. According to the companies, this would mark the first offshore deployment of SOFC technology—with potential land-based applications to follow.

Daimler Truck plans to introduce a small series of 100 fuel cell trucks with liquid hydrogen to customers by the end of 2026. The Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 Truck is based on the GenH2 prototype and uses components from the eActros 600.

Laufenberg and Wevo-Chemie are presenting a new process for the continuous production of flat gaskets for fuel cells and electrolysers at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hamburg. The technology is intended to make production more efficient and cost-effective.

New research center for circular battery and fuel cell production

With support from the German federal government and the Federal State of Lower Saxony, the Technical University (TU) of Braunschweig is establishing a new research center for circular production and recycling processes of batteries and fuel cells. Starting in 2027, around 150 researchers will work there on closed material cycles.

Ballard Power Systems is supplying 32 fuel cell modules with a total output of 6.4 megawatts to eCap Marine. The modules are intended to power two zero-emission container ships operated by Samskip, which will run between Norway and the Netherlands.
