Plug Power – Price jumps with many questions

-

The Plug share price fell quickly to under 3 USD (2.50 USD at low) and then rose again to over 4 USD. At a price of less than 3 USD, it was possible to build up excellent trading positions (see H2-international Feb. 2024). Is there now a turnaround in the price trend or was this just a brief flare...

Nikola Motors – Outlook speaks for the company

-

The press conference in February 2024 on the fourth quarter results and the entire year 2023 and, above all, the outlook for the current fiscal year support my very optimistic assessment of this start-up. Of the 42 built Tre FCEVs, 35 were delivered in the fourth quarter. Seven are currently being...

Hyzon Motors – Strong patent position

-

Hyzon Motors will start production of 200‑kW modules for commercial vehicles in the USA in the second half of 2024. This should then lead to a recovery of the strongly depressed share price via incoming orders. Parallel to this are running product presentations such as the recent one in Melbourne...

FuelCell Energy – Carbon capture as a growth story?

-

FuelCell Energy has with SOFC fuel cell power plants built its own capacities for clean energy totaling 62.8 MW (previous year: 43.7 MW). The company's own high-temperature fuel cell serves as the basis for use in electrolysis, where the company has recognized great potential for itself. Along with...

Optimism at the H2 Forum in Berlin

Politicians with an open ear for hydrogen

-

A good 450 participants gathered at the specialist conference H2 Forum in Berlin February 19 and 20 to discuss innovative H2 technologies, strategies for the market ramp-up and the necessary regulatory framework conditions. A further 1,000 participants were connected online, even despite the considerable time difference in countries such as India and the USA.

Cummins Engine – Emissions scandal ended by payment

-

The share of Cummins Engine brings joy: The share price rose to a new high for the year, after the company was able to settle a long-standing legal dispute – it was about non-compliance with emission standards for engines – with a penalty payment of 1.6 billion USD, and with that this chapter is...

Ceres Power with strong partners

-

The main shareholders Bosch and Weichai are already counting on the English Ceres Power and their high-temperature fuel cell systems or their patents and know-how. With the South Korean Doosan Fuel Cell there is a license agreement and the planning of a joint FC production. Now, US company Delta...

Ballard – Prospects better than current market valuation

-

The share price of Ballard Power is at an all-time low. The published figures for the fourth quarter of 2023 and the entire year 2023 paint a contradictory picture. The future prospects outlined by the board, however, give cause for optimism. Turnover rose in the fourth quarter to 46.8 million USD –...

Industry congress GAT 2023 in Cologne

Starting points for a comprehensive hydrogen ramp-up

-

To establish a functioning hydrogen economy, the entire value chain must be addressed. It is important to keep in view the market and regulatory aspects as well as the technical aspects (standardization). At the event GAT 2023 in September in Cologne, it could be seen how intensively the industry is working on the implementation. Exciting here are, among other things, the conversion plans of the gas grid operators towards climate-neutral gases. The second phase of the GTP also shows the great interest on the part of municipalities and the industrial sector.

Weichai Power: Strong share price increase

-

The share price of Weichai Power has risen by almost 50 percent in the last few weeks. The reason is the partnership with BYD in the electrification of large vehicle fleets. A perfect joint venture, it seems. Weichai Power with BYD could – my guess – be pushing the door open to fuel cells, since...

Plug Power: Facts offer little hope

-

The turnover in the amount of 198.7 million USD in the third quarter lay considerably below expectations, the loss per share amounts to a minus of 0.47 USD per share with the expected minus of 0.30 USD per share – in the negative sense. The loss for the first nine months of the financial year lies...

Nikola Motors: Capital increase at the right time

-

Short sellers are working massively against the company at the stock exchange. There were shortly even nearly 200 million shares sold short (on Nov. 16 still 193 million). But now, a price change upwards seems very likely. The reason could lie in the comments made at the press conference on the...

FuelCell Energy: A turnaround at last?

-

Here, I am cautious. The company, in my opinion, does not yet offer any convincing prospects, expressed in terms of expected growth, orders and sales through the use of its technology, which was also supported by the share price drop to 1 USD. From this very low level, the price has now turned...

Axpo drives H2 production in Switzerland forward

Opportunity for green fuel

-

The Swiss energy corporation Axpo has identified hydrogen as a field for strategic growth. The H2 production facility at Kraftwerk Reichenau – the power plant on Reichenau Island – is one of several set by run-of-the-river hydropower plants that Axpo has planned for the coming years. Because Switzerland is striving for climate neutrality by 2050. Green hydrogen is playing a central role in this – particularly to decarbonize the heavy transport sector.

China’s picking up the pace

-

In the past weeks, news reached us from The Central Country: China is repositioning itself in the field of hydrogen and intends to take the lead in various fuel cell and hydrogen markets around the world. When it came to the solar and wind energy sectors, or even battery-electric mobility, China stimulated them with its extensive subsidy programs and the People’s Republic quickly advanced to the position of global market leader. Will we now see the same development in the H2 and FC sectors?

Fuel cells poised for scale-up

New production facilities for mass manufacturing

-

Driven by the demands for zero-emission heavy-duty road transportation, truck manufacturers are investing heavily in battery electric and fuel cell electric propulsion systems. Significant efforts have been made to use fuel cells in buses, trains, ships and airplanes. What’s more, carmakers primarily in Asia, but also in Germany, are continuing their work on fuel cell automobiles. Their unusual design means that scaling up to mass manufacture will entail some striking production figures. If a truck power system comprises three stacks with around 10 square meters (110 square feet) of membrane electrode assembly or MEA per stack, each truck requires 30 square meters (320 square feet) of membrane and 60 square meters (640 square feet) of catalyst layer for the anode and cathode. Future production series of 10,000 trucks will therefore need roughly 300,000 square meters (3,200,000 square feet) of membrane and 600,000 square meters (6,400,000 square feet) of catalyst layer. As a result, the production facilities for catalyst layer manufacturing should be set up to handle line speeds of 10 meters a minute as part of a two-shift working pattern.

Cellcentric overcomes major obstacle

-

A positive result in a community poll has apparently cleared the way for cellcentric to press ahead with its plans to mass-produce fuel cells in the German town of Weilheim an der Teck. Cellcentric – a 50-50 joint venture by Daimler Truck and Volvo – is expected to start building its new factory in the course of the year. Preparations for the highly automated manufacturing facility have “already come a very long way,” H2-international was informed. In all, 70 percent of the 8,100 eligible voters living in the Swabian municipality of Weilheim an der Teck, which is situated to the southeast of Stuttgart, chose to support the official designation of the industrial park as the site of the factory. Participation was high with a 60.7-percent turnout. Winfried Kretschmann, minister president of Baden-Württemberg, had made particular efforts to encourage the new manufacturing facility. The Green-party politician was therefore suitably pleased with the result. He now anticipates this positive outcome will give the project a major boost, particularly as there was a large turnout.
