Pharmaceutical company Teva rents first H2 truck from Hylane

Teva, known in Germany primarily through the brand Ratiopharm, is using a hydrogen truck for medication transport for the first time. The Iveco S-eWay Fuel Cell is provided under a rental model by Hylane. Predominantly green hydrogen with RFNBO certification (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) is used, produced from renewable sources according to the requirements of the European Renewable Energy Directive.

800 kilometres range, 2,000 kilometres per week

The focus of operations is on regional transports around Ulm. In addition, the truck serves longer routes to cities such as Nuremberg, Munich, Stuttgart, Heidelberg, or Bamberg. The vehicle is refuelled at hydrogen filling stations along the routes.

According to the companies involved, the vehicle is expected to cover up to 2,000 kilometres per week emission-free. The tractor unit has a range of up to 800 kilometres according to the manufacturer and can be fully refuelled in less than 20 minutes. The hydrogen tanks hold up to 70 kilograms at 700 bar pressure. Each fuel cell system delivers over 200 kW, with a system output of 400 kW. The permissible total weight is 44 tonnes.

Teva acquires the vehicle through Hylane's usage-based rental model. Customers pay exclusively for kilometres driven and for the hydrogen. According to Hylane, they handle provision, registration, driver training, maintenance, repairs, insurance, taxes, and return of the vehicle. In Germany, hydrogen trucks are also exempt from the truck toll.
