Hydrogen engine specialist Keyou and integrated energy supplier GP Joule aim to jointly offer zero-emission mobility solutions for heavy-duty transport. The goal of the strategic partnership is to provide logistics companies with a complete package consisting of vehicles, infrastructure and service.
As part of a rental model, Keyou is offering 40-ton trucks with hydrogen engines based on the Daimler Actros. The vehicles are part of an “H2 Mobility as a Service” offering, which includes not only the zero-emission truck but also maintenance, roadside assistance and optional insurance coverage. According to the company, vehicle sales began at the end of 2024. Market launch of the tractor unit is planned for 2026. Recently, the first 18-ton truck from the pioneer fleet was delivered to logistics company EP Trans from Regensburg.
GP Joule is responsible for the supply of green hydrogen as well as the construction and operation of the refueling infrastructure. Three hydrogen refueling stations are already in operation in Nordfriesland and Bremerhaven. Additional sites in Kiel and Waiblingen are under construction. The hydrogen is produced from renewable energy sources.
“The cooperation with GP Joule is an important step in solving the chicken-and-egg problem, and it is our most extensive collaboration in the infrastructure sector to date,” says Pedro Bravo, Chief Sales Officer at Keyou.
Benjamin Jödecke, Head of Mobility at GP Joule Hydrogen, emphasizes: “Partners like KEYOU ensure that we can offer our green hydrogen to more and more companies. Especially in the heavy-duty sector, mobility with green hydrogen is an ideal complement to battery-electric mobility.”
The companies see the combination of near-series vehicles and available infrastructure as a key lever to drive decarbonization in the logistics sector. The collaboration is intended to enable transport companies to make a predictable and low-risk transition to zero-emission drivetrains.
The partnership is part of both companies’ strategy to make hydrogen mobility market-ready in Germany. GP Joule covers the entire value chain – from electricity generation and electrolysis to refueling. Keyou contributes its hydrogen engine technology and its experience in fleet operations.
The partners announced plans to further deepen their collaboration in expanding infrastructure and acquiring customers.
