SAG Group delivers first hydrogen cryotank systems for trucks in series

The company, based in Vienna and Lend (Austria), has been a manufacturer of fuel tanks for trucks for more than 30 years and claims to have established a pioneering role with the development of cryogenic tank systems for liquid hydrogen (LH₂).

160 million euros turnover despite difficult market conditions

Despite a challenging market environment in the automotive sector, the SAG Group achieved a turnover of 160 million euros in 2025. In addition to the hydrogen business, long-term partnerships with international truck manufacturers and series orders for lightweight components in the areas of passenger cars, rail, and defence contributed to this. The order situation in the rail and defence sectors, in particular, has developed positively, the company reports.

“We were able to secure good orders in existing and new markets in 2025 despite a lot of headwinds. Our results reflect that we are valued by our customers as a flexible and reliable development and production partner," says Karin Exner-Wöhrer, CEO of the SAG Group.

Rheocasting technology as a unique selling point

The company also generated revenues from the so-called rheocasting technology – a casting process for particularly durable aluminium components. According to the SAG Group, no other company in the world currently produces rheocasting components in series. The process is used, among other things, for the passenger car industry.

Production at six locations in Europe and Mexico

The SAG Group employs around 950 people at nine locations in Austria, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Mexico, and the USA. Production takes place at six locations, each near vehicle manufacturers. The company traces its roots back to the Salzburger Aluminium AG, founded in 1898, and is considered a technology leader in cryogenic tank systems for LNG and LH₂. The SAG Group has been repeatedly awarded as a "Leading Innovator" at the GreenTech Awards.
