The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and the start-up Magnotherm have commissioned Europe’s first pilot plant for hydrogen liquefaction using magnetocaloric cooling. The technology is expected to be more energy-efficient and cost-effective than conventional processes.
Air Products, a global industrial gas supplier and, by its own account, the world's largest hydrogen producer, has delivered the first batch of liquid hydrogen (LH2) to be used as fuel for the nearly 119-meter-long fuel cell superyacht "Breakthrough."
In Germany, approximately 62% of railway lines are electrified, while in the United States, the figure is less than 1%. For the remaining rail infrastructure, liquid hydrogen could serve as a climate-friendly fuel, according to a study by the SAG Group, a provider of cryogenic tank systems.
