Thyssenkrupp nucera to manufacture electrolyzers and implement projects in India with BHEL

Thyssenkrupp nucera and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) have signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement at BHEL's headquarters in New Delhi for the manufacture of alkaline water electrolyzers. The electrolyzers are intended for the production of green hydrogen in India. According to the agreement, the companies want to work together to gradually establish local manufacturing of electrolysis modules in India. This includes building up local production capacities, jointly participating in tender procedures, and providing support in the realization of projects.

BHEL is one of India's leading state-owned engineering and manufacturing companies. For decades, it has been active in power generation, transmission, renewable energies, oil and gas, transportation, aerospace, and defense. Among other things, it owns more than half of the conventional power plant capacities in India.

Thyssenkrupp nucera targets the Indian hydrogen market"India is one of the most important growth markets for thyssenkrupp nucera," says Kiran Joseph, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera India. The agreement with BHEL is not thyssenkrupp nucera's first step into the new market. Since the beginning of the year, the electrolysis specialist has also been cooperating with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ) to create a market for green hydrogen and power-to-X in India. Also this year, Indian project developer Juno Joule commissioned thyssenkrupp nucera to carry out a FEED study for a 260 MW green hydrogen production project.
