Both companies have signed a letter of intent for the joint development of hydrogen solutions. The goal is to strengthen the regional hydrogen economy in Linz and to drive the decarbonisation of energy supply.
Injection into the H2 starter network is being examined
The focus of the cooperation is the use of hydrogen produced in the electrolysis test field of the Bosch Engineering Center Linz. Linz AG is currently examining whether this hydrogen can be fed into the emerging H2 starter network Linz via a new pipeline. The pipeline is intended to transport hydrogen exclusively and supply initial potential customers.
In addition, the partners are investigating the construction of additional electrolysis plants and possibilities for the joint use of existing infrastructure. Another focus is on testing a grid-supportive operation to stabilise the power grid and use renewable energies more efficiently.
From test operation to real applications
The collaboration will be scientifically supported. Research partners are to analyse technical, economic, and ecological aspects. A joint working group is to develop concrete recommendations for the next steps in the coming months. “The Bosch Engineering Center Linz offers ideal conditions with its electrolysis test field to transfer hydrogen technologies from test operation to real applications,” says Christian Ganser, Head of the Bosch Engineering Center Linz.
The partnership is part of the Hydrogen Offensive 2030 of the State of Upper Austria. Economic and Energy Councillor Markus Achleitner described the agreement as an “important step” for the implementation of the regional hydrogen strategy. The Bosch Group is already part of the Upper Austrian hydrogen network, which comprises 78 companies and research institutions.
