Lifte H2 delivers hydrogen refueling station to Open Grid Europe

Lifte H2, a subsidiary of Px Group, has commissioned a hydrogen refueling station for Open Grid Europe (OGE) at the Krummhörn site near Emden. The facility is part of the KruH2 hydrogen pilot project and is used to refuel the company’s own fleet of hydrogen vehicles.

The station was integrated into an existing facility and now also enables refueling at 700 bar pressure. The technical setup includes a dual-compressor system that compresses the hydrogen in two separate stages. A buffer storage tank with a pressure of up to 300 bar ensures a steady supply for multiple refueling processes.

Two large storage tanks provide capacity for long-term hydrogen storage. Besides vehicle refueling, the hydrogen can be used for other applications as well, such as combined heat and power (CHP) testing, hydrogen transport, or the operation of fuel cells, which are already in use on site.

The hydrogen is produced on-site using a PEM electrolyzer powered by electricity from nearby wind farms. Since the site is located in a region frequently affected by grid congestion, the electrolyzer can utilize wind energy that would otherwise not be fed into the grid.

Tom Elliger, Head of the Technical Department at Lifte H2 GmbH, emphasized the focus on efficiency and scalability “without unnecessary oversizing” of the station. For Px Group, which acquired Lifte H2 in April 2024, the project marks an important step in expanding its activities across Europe.
