Hydrogen as an alternative to diesel generators on construction sites

The French industrial manufacturer EODev (Energy Observer Developments) showcased its zero-emission energy solutions for the German market at Bauma, the world's largest trade fair for construction machinery and equipment. The highlight was the GEH2 hydrogen fuel cell generator, which delivers up to 110 kVA of power.

The GEH2 is powered by a Toyota PEM fuel cell and, according to the manufacturer, generates electricity quietly and without vibration. The system emits no CO₂, nitrogen oxides, or particulate matter. EODev positions the generator as an alternative to diesel gensets for use on construction sites, in urban infrastructure projects, and in industrial applications.

The company also unveiled its new BESSTIE 120 battery storage system for the first time in Germany. Designed for both mobile and stationary use, it can operate independently or in combination with hydrogen or diesel generators. This enables optimized energy consumption, reduced fuel use and emissions, and peak load management. The system can also serve as a backup power supply.

The BESSTIE is based on LFP (lithium iron phosphate) technology and features a modular, repairable, and recyclable design. This is intended to support sustainable energy use even under demanding operating conditions.

According to EODev, the two systems together offer a reliable, flexible, and future-proof alternative to diesel-based systems. They are designed to meet the operational and environmental requirements of modern construction sites and industrial applications.

Founded in 2019, EODev specializes in the development of zero-emission power generation and storage systems. In addition to the GEH2 and BESSTIE, its product portfolio includes the REXH2 onboard generator for the maritime sector.

EODev's customers include United Rentals, Air Liquide, Equans, and Netflix. According to the company, it has raised nearly 100 million EUR in recent years from corporations such as Toyota and Accor. EODev sells its products in over 25 countries and employs nearly 80 people at two regional locations.
