Sonplas offers explosion-protected thermal chambers for test benches and stand-alone applications. The modular systems are designed for tests with explosive or toxic media such as hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, LPG and natural gas.
According to the manufacturer, the operating range extends from -60 to 180 °C. The chambers can, according to the company, be adapted to different test media with little effort, for example by changing the flow conditions. They are intended, among other things, for testing injectors, pumps, pressure sensors, fuel systems as well as electronic components such as inverters and control units.
For explosion protection, Sonplas relies on inertization by pressurized enclosure according to IEC 60079-2 with nitrogen. In contrast to many thermal chambers common on the market, monitoring is, according to the manufacturer, not carried out via an oxygen sensor. This is intended to make the solution more robust and require less maintenance. The temperature control is arranged externally; only a heat exchanger sits inside the chamber itself. This creates space for the test setup and is intended to avoid critical surface temperatures.
The equipment includes, among other things, door interlocking, gas monitoring, overpressure protection, a floor pan with level switch, as well as extraction when the door is open. According to the company, the systems are designed for ATEX and IECEx.
