The new joint venture Quantron China is to develop locally emission-free commercial vehicles for the Chinese market, and beyond. Behind it stand the Quantron business unit of the German-rooted Haller Group, the young Chinese technology company HyperView from the automotive sector, and Taiwan’s Foxconn as manufacturing partner. The joint venture is to develop the Quantron Gen2 commercial vehicle platform for battery electric and hydrogen-powered trucks and buses. The first public presentation of a Gen2 vehicle is planned for the first half of 2027.
Quantron China is headquartered in Shaoxing, China. Quantron is to contribute its German engineering competence, industrial quality standards and international market experience, HyperView its competence in autonomous driving and in intelligent vehicle technologies. In addition, the partners are hoping for scaling and cost advantages from the Chinese industrial ecosystem.
The first target market of the new platform is to be China. For Quantron, however, it is also to be the technological and industrial basis for the expansion of the offering, both geographically and in terms of content. Andreas Haller, CEO of the Haller Group and founder of Quantron: “We are building in China for China and using the same platform to scale internationally. Our goal is to make emission-free commercial vehicle mobility faster, more economical and more scalable worldwide.”
HyperView has reportedly already delivered a high three-digit number of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, primarily in China. Quantron likewise speaks of a three-digit number of vehicles and systems, with customers in Europe and the Middle East. By the end of 2026, the partners want to have one hundred vehicles in operation with European customers and to build on this experience in the development of the Gen2. The target figure for the entire ecosystem is more than 100,000 emission-free commercial vehicles over the next ten years, with the EU market being attractive given the emissions requirements. Quantron also wants to sell not only vehicles, but a complete package of financing, fleet management and availability guarantee. “We guarantee that our solution offers lower total cost of ownership than diesel from the outset,” says Haller. If this succeeds, Quantron will tie its customers in for the long term. Similar approaches on a smaller scale have already been pursued by GP Joule and by H2 Energy from Switzerland.
