The fuel cell joint venture Cellcentric has had a new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Managing Director since January 2026: Kai Wörner joins the management of the company, which is equally owned by Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group. The management now consists of Loughlan, Wörner, and Niklas Ekström as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Wörner brings extensive experience from senior positions in production and process development. Among other roles, he was responsible for process and machine development in the injection systems sector at Bosch and managed plants in Germany and the USA. Most recently, he was COO EU/US at the battery manufacturer AESC, a global provider of high-performance batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
Location Stuttgart as an advantage
Wörner emphasizes the importance of the two joint venture partners: “Both globally operating partners – Daimler Truck and Volvo Group – are known for their focus on strong innovations and long-term visions for sustainable transport, underpinned by exceptional financial strength and their depth in R&D and process development.”
Wörner also sees the choice of location as an advantage: “The product and philosophy of Cellcentric also fit perfectly with the Stuttgart region with its high-quality university environment, renowned suppliers, and vast expertise in machine and vehicle construction.”
Cellcentric develops and produces fuel cell systems for heavy-duty vehicles and other applications in the field of long-distance freight transport. More than 560 employees work on the further development of the fuel cell drive.
