According to ABB, the HyQ PCI880 is a further development of the previous ACS880 IGBT low-voltage rectifiers and the PCT880 thyristor medium-voltage rectifiers. The new module delivers a stable direct current of up to 6,400 amperes per block and, according to the company, achieves an efficiency of 98 percent. It features integrated reactive power compensation, low harmonic distortion, and complies with common grid connection requirements.
The system is designed for easy integration into electrolysis plants. It offers protective functions, an interlocking system, and Bluetooth-enabled monitoring via ABB Ability. The presentation is taking place as a power module at the trade fair stand. In addition, simulations and technical presentations are being offered.
ABB points to extensive experience in power supply for electrolysis. Since 2021, the company has installed more than 2,800 megawatts of direct current supply worldwide, including more than 160 projects for water electrolysis since 1958. Recent references include a 20-megawatt electrolysis plant in Sweden and installations in Japan.
The HyQ PCI880 is part of ABB’s HyQ portfolio for high-performance power supply solutions in electrolysis. The company considers the product suitable for both pilot projects and large-scale plants.
ABB can be found at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hall B7, Stand 7E35.
