The RH2INE initiative has received an initial approval from Lloyd's Register for the standardized design of interchangeable hydrogen containers. This brings a mobile hydrogen infrastructure for emission-free inland shipping along the Rhine corridor closer.
The biggest obstacle to hydrogen imports is not cost but the slow pace of EU regulation, according to Cornelius Matthes of DII Desert Energy in the podcast The Hydrogen Elevator. Laurent Antony of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE), an intergovernmental partnership working to establish common rules for hydrogen, shares that assessment. At the same time, he points to significant progress and stresses the need to develop shared solutions.
The market for renewable and low-carbon H2 is expected to grow a hundredfold by 2060. This is predicted by the Norwegian certification company DNV in its new "Energy Transition Outlook Hydrogen to 2060." China is expected to account for 35 percent of the new production and use. Compared to 2022, DNV has reduced its forecast by 35 percent.

Ballard Power Systems is supplying 32 fuel cell modules with a total output of 6.4 megawatts to eCap Marine. The modules are intended to power two zero-emission container ships operated by Samskip, which will run between Norway and the Netherlands.

The hydrogen produced by Abo Energy in Hünfeld-Michelsrombach is now officially certified as green. This makes the facility one of the few in Germany to have already received RNFBO certification under the European CertifHy standard.
The French hydrogen producer Lhyfe has become the first company in France to deliver hydrogen with the new RFNBO certificate from the EU. The certification confirms compliance with the highest environmental standards in the production of green hydrogen.
