SIAD and Brembo invest in Hydrospark – focus on solid oxide cells for hydrogen applications

The Italian companies SIAD and Brembo have made financial investments in the start-up Hydrospark. Both are investing up to one million euros each. The young company, based in Bergamo, was founded by Petroceramics and develops solid oxide cells for converting hydrogen into electricity and heat, as well as for reconverting renewable energy into electricity.

The technology is based on proprietary ceramic materials and optimized manufacturing processes. The goal is to create a modular and scalable platform that enables higher energy density while reducing production costs. The cells operate emission-free and are intended to contribute to the decarbonization of industry and mobility.

Target: production capacity of one million cells per year

Hydrospark pursues a strategy based on scientific research, industrial scalability, and environmental responsibility. In its second fiscal year, the company aims to reach break-even and achieve an annual production capacity of one million cells. Initial collaborations with international partners are already in place.

“The addition of two renowned private companies to our group of shareholders is an important strategic step. This investment enables us to validate our technology in a real production facility,” says Hydrospark CEO Fabrizio Gualandris.

SIAD and Brembo see potential for the energy transition

For SIAD, an international provider of industrial gases and engineering services, the investment is part of a long-term strategy to support the energy transition. “Hydrogen is a key factor for a decarbonized future,” says SIAD CEO Bernardo Sestini. The collaboration between Italian centers of excellence can create sustainable added value.

Brembo, a global leader in high-performance braking systems, also sees Hydrospark as an example of technology-driven innovation. “This investment reflects our commitment to fostering the growth of dynamic entrepreneurial talent,” says Matteo Tiraboschi, Executive Chairman of the Brembo Group.
