This news did not really come as a surprise (see H2-international Feb. 2023), as it had become apparent there would be both spatial and temporal collisions between the Bremen and Hamburg hydrogen fairs. Although the H2Expo has a much longer history (start: 2001), the Hydrogen Technology Expo really took off within its two years on the river Weser in Bremen. As an independent event without WindEnergy, the Hamburg-rooted fair would stand no chance against it.
Because of this, Hamburg Messe und Congress (HMC) and Trans-Global Events came together and announced in May 2023 that the, according to the British, “world’s largest hydrogen trade fair” Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe would be moving and appear on the river Alster in 2024. Mike Robinson, CEO of Trans-Global Events, stated: “Hamburg is internationally recognized as a leader in renewable energy and hosts many important hydrogen projects. The expertise and first-class facilities of Hamburg Messe und Congress will additionally help us provide an even more impactful event for our exhibitors and attract even more international visitors.”
Bernd Aufderheide, managing director of HMC, said, “The cooperation is a milestone for us and the hydrogen metropolis Hamburg by which to kick-start new H2 technologies and processes for the energy challenges of our future.” It was further said that the H2Expo & Conference will in the future be integrated into Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe, which is why HMC forwent a June 2023 event.
Parallel to it, the Carbon Capture Technology Expo will also take place annually, where the themes CCUS, CO2 reduction and blue hydrogen will be featured.
