Swiss measurement technology company Trafag has introduced the EXNT 8292 Ex pressure transmitter, developed for use in hazardous industrial environments such as hydrogen systems, mining, and marine sectors. A pressure transmitter is a device that converts physical pressure into a standardized electrical output signal, typically 4 to 20 mA, allowing for real-time monitoring and control in industrial processes.
According to Trafag, the EXNT 8292 is certified for use in Ex zones 0, 1, and 2 (gas), as well as zones 20, 21, and 22 (dust), and complies with international explosion protection standards including ATEX, IECEx, and UKEX. It is also approved for mining applications.
For hydrogen-related use, the EXNT 8292 holds EC79/2009 certification from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Trafag offers an optional hydrogen-compatible sensor element, which is designed to ensure long-term pressure measurement stability in hydrogen-rich environments.
The transmitter is also certified for marine applications under DNV, KRS, and RMRS standards, making it suitable for shipbuilding and offshore installations. Wetted parts made entirely of stainless steel provide corrosion resistance and durability, even when exposed to aggressive or corrosive media.
The EXNT 8292 operates in a wide temperature range from –40 °C to +120 °C and features high overpressure resistance to protect against pressure spikes. Trafag’s thin-film-on-steel sensor technology is used to ensure long-term stability and measurement accuracy of ±0.3 % or ±0.5 % of full scale at 25 °C.
With ingress protection ratings of IP65 and IP67, the transmitter is resistant to dust and water. It also withstands mechanical stress, with vibration resistance up to 10 g and shock resistance up to 50 g. The standard output signal is 4–20 mA, which supports seamless integration into industrial control systems.
To accommodate various installation requirements, the EXNT 8292 offers multiple electrical connection options, including M12x1, MIL-C 26482, EN175301-803-A, Binder 723, and cable variants. Its compact and lightweight design allows for installation in space-constrained environments.
Trafag also provides customization options for the EXNT 8292, including different sensor materials, pressure ports, and accessories such as peak damping elements and special seals. These features allow the transmitter to be tailored to specific media and application needs.
Headquartered in Switzerland, Trafag has over 80 years of experience in sensor and monitoring technology. The company operates in more than 40 countries and supplies industries such as shipbuilding, hydraulics, railways, and high-voltage infrastructure.
