The provider of zero-emission commercial vehicles Hylane has expanded its business model to the Netherlands with the founding of its subsidiary Hylane Netherlands BV. With the support of the Dutch subsidy program SWiM (Subsidieregeling Waterstof in Mobiliteit), Hylane is now offering battery and hydrogen-powered trucks in a pay-per-use model. Hylane's rental model means that customers only pay for the kilometers they actually drive. Maintenance, insurance, general inspection and other services are included in the rental price. Hydrogen and drivers are not included. Hylane takes care of vehicle procurement, registration and regulatory management, including CO₂ verification. Hylane has applied to the SWiM program with three consortia for market entry in the Netherlands. The consortia each consist of one filling station operator: TEAL Mobility, Fountain Fuel and Vissers. The funding covers up to 80 percent of the additional costs compared to diesel trucks. Hylane is using the funds to reduce rental rates for customers.
“By entering the Dutch market, we are transferring our established rental model for zero-emission trucks to another important logistics market,” says Sara Schiffer, Managing Director of Hylane and Hylane Netherlands BV. Many customers are active across borders, so the expansion is a logical step.
Hylane Netherlands BV is offering three zero-emission truck models to start with. The MAN hTGX with hydrogen combustion engine achieves a range of up to 600 kilometers. It stores 56 kilograms of hydrogen at 700 bar and can be refueled in around 15 minutes. The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell is based on a fuel cell system and has a range of around 400 kilometers. The seven hydrogen tanks can be filled in eight to 20 minutes. The range is complemented by a battery-electric tractor unit from Daimler with a range of around 500 kilometers and a charging time of 60 minutes (20 to 80 percent).
“With the MAN hTGX hydrogen combustion truck, we are adding a solution for particularly demanding applications to our zero-emission portfolio,” says Richard Frenz, Vice President at MAN Truck & Bus. The hTGX is classified as a zero-emission vehicle and is particularly suitable for markets with an existing hydrogen infrastructure. Participation in the SWiM program required cooperation with filling station operators. Hylane cooperates with TEAL Mobility, Fountain Fuel and Vissers. A fuel card gives customers access to the existing network of hydrogen filling stations. TEAL Mobility currently operates five stations in the Netherlands under the TotalEnergies brand. Two more are to follow soon. The company also operates seven stations in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France.
“With five hydrogen filling stations in the Netherlands and more in Europe, we are expanding the cross-border infrastructure for sustainable road transport,” says Florentin de Loppinot, CEO of TEAL Mobility.
Hylane was founded in 2021 and claims to be one of the leading providers of zero-emission trucks in Europe. The company provides vehicles from various manufacturers and, in addition to rental, also provides services and regulatory management.
