HIF Global, a provider of synthetic fuels, has signed a supply agreement with Porsche and Shell through its subsidiary HIF Chile. The agreement concerns e-fuels from the Haru Oni production facility in Punta Arenas, Chile.
The e-gasoline produced in Chile is delivered to the Shell Technology Centre in Hamburg. There, Shell processes the fuel before Porsche uses it at various events. The goal is to demonstrate the compatibility of e-fuels with conventional combustion engines.
The name HIF (Highly Innovative Fuels) stands for hydrogen-based fuels that are produced by recycling CO2. Cesar Norton, President and CEO of HIF Global, emphasizes the importance of the cooperation: „For two years, we have been operating the world's first e-fuels plant in Chile, contributing to the successful introduction of e-fuels in cars and ships. The collaboration between HIF, Porsche and Shell will demonstrate the potential of e-fuels as part of our continuous efforts to provide advanced, sustainable fuels."
The Haru Oni facility in Patagonia produces e-methanol and e-gasoline using the region's strong winds. As the world's first facility of its kind, it is considered an important building block for the future scaling of the technology for mass production of e-fuels. The facility is certified according to the international standard ISCC Plus (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). The e-fuels produced are checked daily with more than 100 laboratory analyses.
According to its own information, HIF Global is developing additional e-fuel production facilities in the United States, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, and Australia. The company sees its mission as producing highly innovative fuels that make the global energy supply more sustainable. The synthetic fuels are designed for use in cars, ships, and aircraft.
