As early as the end of 2027, Daimler Truck plans to bring a truck with a hydrogen engine to market together with Keyou. Daimler Truck and Keyou have agreed to develop the truck jointly. To this end, Daimler Truck will supply Keyou with vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz Actros L 1848 type as tractor units, along with engines manufactured in Mannheim based on the existing 12.8-liter platform. The Munich-based company is responsible for the technological adaptation for hydrogen operation. External service providers will handle the technical conversion of the trucks and the integration of the engine.
The first vehicle from the cooperation is to be the Keyou HICE.40 tractor unit. It is designed for a gross vehicle weight of 40 metric tons. According to Keyou, thanks to 350-bar compressed hydrogen technology, it is expected to achieve a range of up to 650 kilometers. The company states the output at up to 350 kW. A port fuel injection system (PFI) is used. In the future, the technology can also be transferred to further vehicle series. Daimler Truck would then offer the entire spectrum of zero-emission trucks: battery-electric, with fuel cell drive and with hydrogen engine.
