The core of the new agreement is a supply quantity of up to 100 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year over a period of two years. The hydrogen is certified according to the criteria for renewable fuels of non-biological origin, abbreviated as RFNBO. This certification is a prerequisite for the hydrogen to be credited towards European quota obligations in the transport and industrial sectors.
Building on existing collaboration
The new agreement builds on an already ongoing cooperation between the two companies. H2APEX develops and operates plants for the production of green hydrogen, including for applications in industry, infrastructure, and mobility. According to its own statements, Lhyfe is one of the pioneers in the production of renewable hydrogen and is listed on Euronext Growth.
According to the two companies, the demand for green hydrogen in Germany is currently growing faster than new production capacities can be established. Against this backdrop, the combination of own production and long-term supply partnerships is gaining importance to reliably supply customers.
Statements from company management
“Germany remains one of the most important hydrogen markets in Europe. The expansion of our collaboration with H2APEX reflects the increasing demand for RFNBO-certified renewable hydrogen and underscores the importance of strong partnerships along the entire hydrogen value chain,” says Matthieu Guesné, founder and CEO of Lhyfe. Together, they support customers in achieving decarbonisation goals more quickly and contribute to building a hydrogen ecosystem.
Peter Rößner, CEO of the H2APEX Group, points to the company's role as a provider along the value chain: “Security of supply and reliability are our top priorities. At the same time, the demand for green hydrogen is growing faster than new production capacities can currently be put into operation.” To meet this, H2APEX combines its own production capacities and infrastructure projects with long-term partnerships like the collaboration with Lhyfe.
The current market development in Germany
According to both companies, Germany is considered one of the most dynamic hydrogen markets in Europe. The increasing demand from mobility and industry, as well as the growing regulatory requirements for renewable fuels, are driving the need for reliable supply chains. Flexible procurement models for certified quantities of green hydrogen are intended to secure supply during the market ramp-up phase.
With the expanded agreement, H2APEX and Lhyfe aim to contribute to accelerating the ramp-up of the hydrogen market in Germany and Europe. The two companies did not provide specific information on the financial volume of the supply agreement or the delivery locations.
