AvCarb presents flexible gas diffusion layer at the Hydrogen Technology Expo

At the Hydrogen Technology Expo, AvCarb is showcasing its new gas diffusion layer Flex-GDL. The product has been developed for use in fuel cells and electrolysers. Flex-GDL is a flexible, porous graphite-based layer. It adapts to different cell architectures while maintaining mechanical stability.

The graphite material is conductive and compression-resistantThe gas diffusion layer is characterised by low compressibility. This reduces the risk of cell deformation and leakage. The special graphitic matrix ensures high electrical conductivity. The material supports uniform gas distribution and effective water management. It is resistant to corrosive environments, both in acidic and alkaline media.

Roll-to-roll manufacturing possibleFlex-GDL is particularly thin and suitable for roll-to-roll processes. The layer is available in widths of up to 800 millimetres and lengths of up to 1,000 metres. It is manufactured using water-based processes and reduces the use of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) by 80 percent compared to conventional gas diffusion layers.

AvCarb is an internationally active manufacturer of carbon materials for the aerospace, energy, and chemical industries. Interested parties can find AvCarb at the Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe in Hall B5, Booth 5F35.
