HydrogenPro delivers 40 electrolysers for one of the world's largest hydrogen projects

The Advanced Clean Energy Storage Hub (ACES Delta) project in the US state of Utah is approaching completion. HydrogenPro, the exclusive supplier of the electrolyzers, provided an update on the commissioning process as part of its quarterly results. According to the company, all forty electrolyzers across all units were operated at 100 percent load. “I am proud of HydrogenPro’s commitment in one of the largest hydrogen projects in the world, contributing to California’s clean energy supply,” says CEO Jarle Dragvik.

Up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day

The ACES Delta project is being developed jointly by Chevron New Energies and Mitsubishi Power. The facility, with an electrolysis capacity of 220 MW, is expected to produce up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. The hydrogen will be stored in two salt caverns, each with an energy capacity of 150 gigawatt-hours (GWh). When required, it is to be fed back into the power grid in order to supply California with renewable electricity. According to the project developers, the storage capacity is expected to be two to three times larger than that of all grid-connected battery storage systems across the entire USA combined.

HydrogenPro sees competitive advantage through reference project

HydrogenPro relies on alkaline high-pressure electrolysis. The Norwegian company, founded in 2013, is also a technology partner of Andritz, which operates a gigafactory for electrolyzers based on HydrogenPro technology in Erfurt. Dragvik sees a strategic advantage in the ACES project: “Once this project is fully operational, it will provide HydrogenPro with a competitive advantage, strengthen our track record, and be a decisive factor in securing new contracts.” Analysts estimate the market volume for clean hydrogen at 5.5 to 10 million tonnes per year by 2030, according to Dragvik. In this growing market, the proven ability to execute projects is increasingly coming into focus.
