EWE and Salzgitter Flachstahl have signed a long-term supply contract for green hydrogen. From 2030, approximately 10,000 tonnes per year are to flow from the 320 MW electrolysis plant under construction in Emden through the hydrogen core network to Salzgitter.

Witt Gas Controls has developed a check valve specifically for PEM fuel cells in industrial trucks. The Ultra 22 opens at around 4 mbar and is intended to increase the efficiency of the fuel cell systems of a North American manufacturer.

France has granted Mantle8 an exclusive exploration license for natural hydrogen and helium in the Pyrenees. With the Hydrogeco project, the company is entering the next phase – however, extraction has not yet been approved.

Air Products is supplying the ArianeGroup with low-carbon liquid hydrogen for engine tests over a three-year period. The gas is liquefied at the Port of Rotterdam and used at the French site in Vernon for the European launch vehicle Ariane 6.

On October 20, 2026, the Global Hydrogen Associations Meeting is set to take place in Hamburg for the first time. The event is hosted by the Hydrogen Technology World Expo and the German Hydrogen Association (DWV). A study commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport sees potential for hydrogen primarily in airport ground operations in the short term. A comprehensive development of infrastructure for liquid hydrogen is currently not considered sensible.

US company Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) is supplying a 0.5 MW electrolyzer to the Norwegian research institute SINTEF. The system is designed to produce green hydrogen for the manufacture of emissions-free acetone from CO2. It is part of the EU project PYROCO2.

The municipality of Bosbüll in North Frisia is expanding its district heating network. In the future, process heat from local hydrogen production will also be fed into the system. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025.

The Swiss company Infener wants to promote hydrogen throughout Europe. Decentralized H₂ hubs will be used to generate green electricity as well as green heat. The Ecore One is a compact containerized solution that combines various energy technologies in one unit: electrolyzer, fuel cell and battery as well as compressor and a heat pump with its own energy management system or EMS. H₂ production is due to start 2027 at a site in the Black Forest, Germany. However, the needs of regional industry are already far greater today.

The Renewable Energies Hamburg Cluster Agency (EEHH) has launched a digital hydrogen marketplace for the metropolitan region. The free platform aims to connect producers, consumers, and service providers along the hydrogen value chain.

The hydrogen ramp-up in Germany is not failing due to a lack of interest from companies. On the contrary, regulatory, economic, and infrastructural risks, also at the EU level, are hindering investments along the value chain. This is shown by a study from BDEW and Capgemini.

According to Fraunhofer ISE, Ireland can become a significant player in the hydrogen economy. In the HYreland project, researchers analyzed potentials and costs. For export to Germany, pipeline transport to Stade or Rotterdam would be the most cost-effective.

The Stadtwerke Stuttgart have begun constructing a hydrogen pipeline approximately four kilometres long along the Neckar. It is intended to transport green hydrogen from the planned Green Hydrogen Hub in the Stuttgart harbour to consumers in three city districts.
