At the Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg, Purem by Eberspächer is showcasing new components and systems for fuel cells. The focus is on a hydrogen recirculation blower, a modular exhaust system, and series-production-ready valve solutions.

At the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hamburg, Sonplas will showcase a hydrogen test bench and a concept for an electrolysis test bench. The special-purpose machine manufacturer also plans to enter into a cooperation with a Chinese stack manufacturer.

In Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia, the FIA hosted its first-ever hydrogen-powered motorsport race. Jameel Motorsport claimed victory in the Extreme H World Cup.

Toppan Holdings is presenting a three-square-meter catalyst-coated membrane (CCM) for water electrolysis, as well as new membrane electrode assemblies (MEA), for the first time at the Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg.

On September 15, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) of Germany published the “Monitoring Report” on the energy transition. Minister Katherina Reiche also presented ten steps to improve the economic viability. When it comes to hydrogen, fixed targets appear to be a thing of the past. Instead, the ministry is taking a “flexible” and “technology-neutral” approach. Reiche speaks of aligning with demand and market needs. She ignores the necessity, outlined in the report, of first building up this demand.

This is the unanimous demand of the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) and the AquaVentus Förderverein, whose goal is to produce green hydrogen directly at sea using offshore wind energy and transport it to shore via pipeline. Transport via pipelines is described as a cost-effective, fast and environmentally friendly solution.

The joint venture Libra Horizon plans to build a 5 MW green hydrogen production facility in Trollhättan. The plant is expected to produce up to 775 tonnes of hydrogen per year, targeting industrial and transport applications.

The companies SIAD and Brembo are each investing up to one million euros in the Italian hydrogen start-up Hydrospark. The company develops solid oxide cells based on ceramic materials for emission-free energy conversion and storage.

The municipality of Bosbüll in North Frisia is expanding its district heating network. In the future, process heat from local hydrogen production will also be fed into the system. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025.

The Swiss company Infener wants to promote hydrogen throughout Europe. Decentralized H₂ hubs will be used to generate green electricity as well as green heat. The Ecore One is a compact containerized solution that combines various energy technologies in one unit: electrolyzer, fuel cell and battery as well as compressor and a heat pump with its own energy management system or EMS. H₂ production is due to start 2027 at a site in the Black Forest, Germany. However, the needs of regional industry are already far greater today.

Hylane has brought the first hydrogen truck equipped with a Bosch fuel cell module into Germany’s road freight transport sector. The 40-ton truck from Iveco is operated by logistics company Schäflein for the Bosch plant in Nuremberg – as part of a rental model.

Thyssenkrupp Uhde has implemented a hydrogen recovery unit for ammonia producer Fertiglobe in the United Arab Emirates. The unit increases production by up to 6 percent while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions.

Energy company Gasunie is converting an existing natural gas pipeline in Bremen to transport hydrogen. The measure is part of the Hyperlink project, which aims to integrate Bremen into Germany’s national hydrogen core network. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2027.

In the Federal State of Lower Saxony, the AGil project has being launched to develop new business models for municipal utilities. The goal is to convert surplus electricity from renewable sources into hydrogen locally, thereby strengthening decentralized energy supply.
