German energy minister plans shaping hydrogen targets “based on demand”

-

On September 15, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) of Germany published the “Monitoring Report” on the energy transition. Minister Katherina Reiche also presented ten steps to improve the economic viability. When it comes to hydrogen, fixed targets appear to be a thing of the past. Instead, the ministry is taking a “flexible” and “technology-neutral” approach. Reiche speaks of aligning with demand and market needs. She ignores the necessity, outlined in the report, of first building up this demand.

In order to make climate-neutral hydrogen available across all sectors in the future, appropriate regulations are urgently needed.

Hydrogen researchers warn of potential EU funding cuts

-

“Hydrogen future funding is at stake,” warns the research network Hydrogen Europe Research. The reason is the upcoming draft of the European Commission’s financial framework for the years 2028 to 2034, which will also determine the future of research funding. Although no official decisions have been made yet, the ongoing political debate suggests that budget cuts are likely. HZwei explains the significance of the discussion and spoke with Luigi Crema, President of Hydrogen Europe Research.
