In all three affected federal states, the scoping process for the planned hydrogen pipeline Hybor has begun. In this early procedural step, the responsible authorities, together with the public interest bodies, define the scope for further environmental assessments. This forms the basis for the subsequent environmental impact assessment and the planning approval procedure. According to the operator Gascade, its initiation is planned for the coming year.
Since the end of 2025, preparatory investigations have been underway along the planned route. These include environmental surveys of flora and fauna as well as soil investigations. The results are incorporated into the documents for the planning approval procedure.
120 kilometres from Bobbau to Rückersdorf
The Hybor pipeline is to run for approximately 120 kilometres from Bobbau in Saxony-Anhalt through Saxony to Rückersdorf in Thuringia. It is part of Germany's hydrogen core network and, according to Gascade, is expected to be completed by 2029. The project is being implemented as part of the infrastructure programme "Flow – making hydrogen happen".
Hybor connects existing pipelines that are to be converted for hydrogen transport in the future. According to the company, the project closes a gap in the emerging hydrogen network and is intended to connect industry, storage, and other consumers in the region in the future. In May 2026, Gascade also plans public information events in the affected regions, including in Halle (Saale), Leuna, Pegau, and Ronneburg.
