In January, Eui-sun Chung, the executive vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, was named co-chair of the Hydrogen Council. He now heads the organization together with Benoît Potier, Air Liquide’s chief executive and chairman of the council since its founding in 2017. Both stressed the import of creating a zero-carbon hydrogen society.

Hydrogen Council: H2 investments to pay off

scaling-upThe Hydrogen Council used the COP23 climate change conference to present a new report titled “Hydrogen, Scaling up.” Featuring contributions by consulting firm McKinsey, it describes a roadmap for advancing the large-scale introduction of hydrogen and assessing its impact on transforming the energy sector. According to the study, the gas could help cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 20 percent of the 2050 targets, or around 6 gigatons. (more…)

CouncilAt the beginning of 2017, several businesses joined forces to advance the energy transformation and spread the vision of a hydrogen economy. On Jan. 18, 2017, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the heads of thirteen globally operating businesses held a press conference to announce the launch of the Hydrogen Council. The council’s secretary general is Pierre-Etienne Franc, vice president of advanced business and technologies at Air Liquide and formerly board chair of the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, and its chair is Benoît Potier, Chief Executive Officer of Air Liquide.
