Researchers working for Bosch and Linde are developing a new, portable device called an Optical Gas Spectrometer, or OGS. The unit is said to be capable of detecting nearly all types of impurities found in hydrogen and CNG and allow for a detailed analysis of gas compositions.
Despite being as small as a shoe box, the device provides the same functionality as spectrometers used in laboratories. While Linde Gas is now putting the first fully functional prototype through its paces, Bosch is looking for additional partners to improve and beta-test the unit. (more…)

The idea has already been tossed around for twenty years – now it is finally being realized: The development of a market-ready fuel cell bike. As gas specialist Linde announced in November 2015, it took in-house engineers less than three months to design an electric-assisted pedal cycle equipped with a fuel cell instead of a battery pack. The required hydrogen is brought along in a composite tank, which can hold 34 grams of the gas (more…)

The work on developing ultra-cold hydrogen was abandoned together with the H2 combustion engine in 2006 – at least, that is what everyone believed. After years of uncertainty, it is now clear that BMW is still holding on to cryogenic technology. Proof of that is the inauguration of a new pump at the multi-energy refueling station in Munich, at which drivers can fill up both their compressed gas and their ultra-cold H2 tanks. (more…)

Mercedes-Benz doesn’t only sell vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells; it also uses them at its production facilities. Since the start of June 2015, the firm’s transporter plant in Düsseldorf has been operating two forklift trucks which are powered by hydrogen fuel cell. The forklift trucks were manufactured by Linde Material Handling and are supplied on location at a mobile H2 filling station provided by Air Products. One of the goals of the project, which will (more…)
